Altostratus began as a simple template that folds to create interesting 3D forms. During this process our concept became set on the idea that it would be able to hold multiple forms. To help achieve this, we decided it would be suspended and have the illusion that it was floating. This hovering, changeable form then gave way to the idea of a cloud; which in turn gave reference to an underlying theme :"the Land of the long white cloud". Our sculpture also inherited a pacific theme, in that we noticed the folds + template itself became reminiscent of linear patterns on a tapa cloth. To highlight this idea we illuminated the unique pattern in using a series of wooden right-angled triangles applied to a clear sheet. Between each triangle would be gaps that will form the pattern. Through the use of lighting techniques, our sculpture will express pattern but also, which in turn would be our glow factor for Artweek.
